Text: Cardinal Louis de Rohan Signature

A shallow, vain man born into the highest level of the French nobility.

Cardinal Louis de Rohan (1743-1803) was detested by Marie Antoinette. In 1785, in an effort to gain the Queen’s favor, he became involved in “The Diamond Necklace Scandal.” His accomplice was Mme. de la Motte. The trial that resulted ruined him but cast suspicion on the Queen and further antagonized the public.
