He succeeded in holding the lid on for 31 years and still had time for his family.
He ruled over three decades of turbulence, riots, wars, and uprisings, not to mention a division in that pillar of their nation, the Orthodox Church. His was not a tranquil life. Alexis was the man of the hour and able to meet the demands of his time. He enjoyed the children of his successive wives as well.
