Gunther and Hagen

Uta uses her sons to trick the hero Siegfried into forgetting his love for Brunhild and falling in love with their sister Kriemhild. Gunther and Hagen then induce Siegfried to impersonate Gunther in wooing Brunhild. Once this conquest is made, they plot to murder Siegfried. After they accomplish this, Kriemhild is married to Etzel, King of the Burgundians. In order to extract her revenge, she invites her brothers to visit, and all three are slaughtered in the resulting battle.
