Kriemhild

Kriemhild is the key figure in the second half of the Nibelungenlied. She is the personification of loyalty and revenge regarding the death of her husband Siegfried. Along with her children, Kriemhild consummates the final phase of the legend by destroying Siegfried's killers by revenging herself on her brothers and facilitating the return of the Rhinegold to its rightful owners. It is a complex and convoluted story with many contradictions and competing versions.
