She was the teenage bride of Peter, soon to be Tsar. Peter had interest in her only long enough for her to bear him a son. Exiled to a nunnery, she spent most of the rest of her life in “comfortable” exile. She emerged only briefly to enjoy the coronation of her grandson, Peter II.
