Assurbanipal was king of Assyria and led her to her greatest glory. An ambitious man, he lacked the genius of his father, Esar-Haddon, but compensated for it with his administrative and leadership abilities. He was a great patron of the arts and brought Assyria to the zenith of its splendor and the last great king of the Neo-Assyrian Empire. Remnants of his great library exist today.<br><br>Restorers' Comment: An elaborate bead fringe and gold lace trim was added to the original robe.
