Martha Washington gave a reception for her husband at their Mt. Vernon home, and an ambassador’s wife wore this lovely gown. The rare Spitalfields silk gown is registered at the Victoria and Albert Museum, but the name of its wearer is unknown.
Restorers' Comment: The floral designs on this dress were completely repainted by hand after the dress was cleaned.
